Our School Readiness Program
School readiness is embedded throughout our program and focuses on developing the skills children need to confidently transition to school. We support children to build self-help skills such as managing belongings, dressing independently, and taking responsibility for personal care routines. Opportunities for choice, problem-solving, and decision-making foster independence and confidence.
Through play-based learning and group experiences, children develop social competence, learning to cooperate, negotiate, share ideas, and work collaboratively with others. We support emotional regulation by helping children recognise and express their feelings, develop resilience, and use strategies to manage challenges and transitions.
Strong communication skills are nurtured through conversations, storytelling, literacy experiences, and opportunities to listen, question, and share ideas. We also maintain positive relationships with local schools, providing transition-to school experiences and collaborating with school staff to support children and families as they move into their next stage of learning. Our goal is to ensure every child leaves preschool feeling capable, confident, and excited about starting school.
All aspects of our program work together to create meaningful STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) learning opportunities. Whether children are exploring nature, engaging in sustainability projects, solving problems during construction play, expressing themselves through creative arts, developing literacy and communication skills, or building relationships with others, they are applying STEAM concepts in authentic and engaging ways.
Our Child Safe Standards
Pottsville Community Preschool is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for every child in our care.
Our comprehensive safety framework includes the following key measures, however, please know we have an open-door policy and welcome questions from parents/guardians.
1. Supervision, Risk, and Environment

2. Staff Screening & Professional Development

Working with Children: All staff must hold a current Working with Children check that includes National Police Check (criminal history record check) and a review of reportable workplace misconduct).

Mandatory Training: Staff complete approved child protection courses and ongoing training at least annually in child safety and wellbeing.

3. Health, Hygiene & Wellbeing

Health Controls: Strict measures are in place for immunisation, allergy and medical management, food safety, and infectious disease prevention.

Sun Protection & Safe Transport: Our Service follow best practice guidelines to ensure safety during outdoor activities and transportation.

Prohibition of Substances: Tobacco, including vaping devices, alcohol and drugs are not permitted under any circumstances.
4. Policies, Procedures & Compliance

6. Digital Safety & Technology Use
- Device Use Policy: Educators and staff are prohibited from using personal devices to photograph or film children. Only service issued devices may be used, with strict privacy and consent. protocols.
7. Child Protection & Reporting

Incident Prevention and Management: Protocols are in place to proactively prevent incidents and manage them effectively when they occur.

Mandatory Reporting: All educators and staff are required to report any suspected or known child abuse or neglect to the families and relevant authorities.

24-Hour Incident Reporting: Allegations, complaints, or incidents involving physical or sexual abuse must be reported within 24 hours.
